Director of Finance and Operations

As a key member of the leadership team, the Director of Finance and Operations plays a central role in ensuring New Way Academy’s strong financial health. This role ensures that the organization has sound budgeting and finance practices and processes in place, and provides vision and oversight for our human resources and operations systems. The Director of Finance and Operations oversees three key areas, including finance, HR and operations. This is an outstanding opportunity for a finance leader with operational experience and a proven track record of creative problem-solving to make an impact at a mission-driven, independent school.

Leadership: 

  • Effectively communicate and present critical financial and operational matters to the leadership team and New Way’s Board of Directors
  • Contribute to the development of New Way Academy’s strategic goals and objectives, as well as the overall management of the organization
  • Oversee and manage the Finance and Operations team

Finance: 

  • Create and report financial projections to the Executive Director and Board of Directors 
  • Manage and enhance the annual budget process 
  • Work with Executive Director to ensure that spending is within budget, making adjustments and recommendations when necessary 
  • Oversee tax filings and prepare supporting schedules 
  • Help create systems, structures and a growth plan to ensure continued fiscal viability 
  • Oversee financial systems to ensure accuracy and timeliness of check requests, credit card reconciliations, payroll, accounts receivable and accounts payable 
  • Prepare all materials, including budgets, for new and renewed grants 
  • Manage and serve as the main point of contact for partner School Tuition Organizations (STOs)

Human Resources:

  • In coordination with the Executive Director and Board of Directors, oversee and provide guidance on HR policies 
  • Implement program changes and communicate these changes to employees; update all benefit manuals
  • Ensure insurance policies are up to date and handle claims when necessary for coverage under general liability, D&O, and workers compensation 
  • Employee counseling as needed for insurance, disability, retirement, or other benefits

Operations 

  • Provide oversight on all procedures, projects and vendors on campus
  • Manage the ordering and delivery of products and items associated with the facility
  • Ensure annual school maintenance is scheduled and completed, including gym floor, VCT flooring, landscaping, and external building work
  • Review and prepare contracts for various projects and ensure the organization is in compliance with school safety regulations
  • Other responsibilities and duties as assigned 

Key Skills, Abilities and Experiences 

  • Minimum 2 years experience in a senior management role in finance, ideally in a nonprofit environment; at least 5 years work experience total 
  • Demonstrated experience with finance systems, budgets and financial management
  • Strong leadership skills, with experience in managing direct reports 
  • Proven track record of success 
  • Courtesy, discretion and tact to work sensitively with vendors, New Way parents and faculty, by email, telephone and in person
  • Exceptional attention to detail 
  • Willingness and ability to learn how to navigate and utilize the school’s student database and enrollment management system
  • Proven ability to be responsive and manage projects to on time completion 
  • Computer literacy with relevant experience using Microsoft Office and Google Workplace
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment with multiple and varied tasks and projects 
  • Undergraduate degree preferably in finance or accounting 
  • CPA preferred

The Director of Finance and Operations position is full time and requires the employee to be on campus five days per week. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. New Way Academy offers a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, vision and dental. Lunch is provided daily by Atlasta Catering.
