Come be part of the team at New Way Academy this coming fall for the 2023-2024 School Year! We are an independent, Arizona State approved and accredited school for bright children with learning differences. Our Director of Transition adheres to the school’s mission to educate children with learning differences to fulfill their potential as they oversee all transition planning, an integral part of the high school experience at New Way. We offer a variety of transition services to help families create realistic, attainable, and exciting plans for the future. Services include guided career exploration, career assessments, post-secondary education advising, and independent living advice. New Way also collaborates with local organizations to create opportunities for students while still in high school. Every high school student has an annual transition meeting that allows the student, parents and staff to develop a comprehensive plan for the future.

The Director of Transition role is a 10 month position following the academic calendar. 

Responsibilities
  • Lead team of transition specialists in assigning, editing, and finalizing individual transition plans and summary of performance documents for every high school student
  • Facilitate annual meetings and present transition plans to families
  • Share knowledge of postsecondary pathways, special education, disability law, and admissions requirements as they pertain to transition plans
  • Build meaningful relationships with high school families to guide postsecondary decision making
  • Network with postsecondary institutions and supportive programs
  • Navigate dual enrollment procedures and relationships with Maricopa Community Colleges
  • Interpret psychoeducational evaluation results as they relate to vocational and academic accommodations
  • Manage internal and external deadlines as they relate to applications, testing, and events
  • Innovate and expand transition department outreach and support to anticipate evolving needs of high school students
  • Develop professional skills and knowledge as it pertains to high school, special education and postsecondary planning best practices
  • Support families in obtaining post-graduation admissions materials, adult scale psychoeducational testing, college admissions exams, and transcripts as identified necessary and appropriate 
  • Teach and develop curriculum for high school seminar courses related to independent living skills
  • Plan and execute events including but not limited to: transition fair, senior trip, senior dinner, electives field trips, information sessions, career day, and graduation

  • A passionate educator focused on differentiated special education services and supports for unique learners 
  • An individual with strong executive functioning skills who can independently manage multiple long-term projects at once
  • A flexible thinker who adjusts to the ever-evolving world of transition services and programs 
  • A confident professional who can navigate a variety of discussions with families, students, and staff members 
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher with a preferred emphasis on special education, counseling, social work, or educational coaching
  • Previous experience with high school students, families, and staff
