Lower School
Building the Foundation For Success
While New Way Academy accepts new students of all grade levels, we firmly believe that a quality early education experience will build the foundation for a child’s future success. This is especially true for children with learning differences. Not only does early intervention provide a strong foundation for long-term learning success, it also reduces the frustration that can occur when a student’s needs are not addressed at the start of their academic career.
Our lower school teachers receive specialized training to deliver evidence-based instruction using methods that incorporate insights on learning and brain development. Our instructors understand this age group’s increased brain plasticity and how to optimize that learning advantage now, to set students up for success later.
The Lower School features a spacious play area with a state-of-the-art playground, and all students receive a Chromebook with age-appropriate assistive technology tools.

A Day in the Life
Junior high students are assigned to a homeroom class of eight to 12. The school day is divided into morning homeroom, seven academic class periods, and afternoon homeroom. A typical schedule includes math, reading, writing, social studies, health, tech, STEM, and a combination of special classes such as P.E., art, or mindfulness. Depending on individual needs, occupational, reading, speech-language, and other appropriate therapies may be included in the daily schedule at no additional fee.

Throughout the year, students can enjoy:
- Multi-sensory curriculum in phonics, reading, writing, math, and STEM
- Intensive remediation in areas of individual need
- Speech, reading, and occupational therapy (for qualifying students)
- Thematic field trips, including an annual musical
- Participation in the annual musical
- Athletic teams, including swim, flag football, and spirit squad
- Interest-based lunchtime and after-school clubs
- Student-centered celebrations and events (spirit assemblies, holidays, birthdays)

“We moved from Chicago specifically to allow our children to attend New Way Academy. Our family was struggling with the challenges of raising children with learning differences and we were turning to New Way for help. Admittedly we took a “leap of faith” and this leap was rewarded in countless ways. Not only are our children now thriving academically, socially and emotionally but our entire family dynamic has improved as well. Donating my time and resources to New Way is a very small way to say “thank you” to this wonderful organization and to ensure New Way will continue to transform families for the better into the future.”
