Junior High

GRADES 7-8

Turning Transitional Years Into Successful Ones

Recognizing that this age group is vulnerable to media and social pressures, New Way’s junior high teachers are experienced at guiding students through adolescence. We understand this age group’s increasing independence while providing necessary structure and boundaries. By building confidence in the classroom, students are more likely to make good decisions—inside and outside the classroom—in the future.

Our Junior High serves students in grades seven and eight, providing a curriculum that aligns with Arizona State standards. The program includes intensive interventions and rigorous instruction tailored to the content level. New Way teachers are trained to identify each student’s unique strengths and talents, focusing on remediating areas such as reading, attention, and comprehension based on individual needs. Classroom instruction is grounded in research and employs methods that incorporate insights into learning and brain function. Additionally, teachers collaborate closely with families to foster students’ organizational skills, social competence, independence, and overall academic success.

The Junior High features spacious outdoor areas, and all students receive a Chromebook with age-appropriate assistive technology tools.

A Day in the Life

Junior high students are assigned to a homeroom class of eight to 12. The school day is divided into morning homeroom, seven academic class periods, and afternoon homeroom. A typical schedule includes math, reading, writing, social studies, health, tech, STEM, and a combination of special classes such as P.E., art, or mindfulness. Depending on individual needs, occupational, reading, speech-language, and other appropriate therapies may be included in the daily schedule at no additional fee.

“We moved from Chicago specifically to allow our children to attend New Way Academy. Our family was struggling with the challenges of raising children with learning differences and we were turning to New Way for help. Admittedly we took a “leap of faith” and this leap was rewarded in countless ways. Not only are our children now thriving academically, socially and emotionally but our entire family dynamic has improved as well. Donating my time and resources to New Way is a very small way to say “thank you” to this wonderful organization and to ensure New Way will continue to transform families for the better into the future.”
